There are 53 14er mountains in Colorado, that’s mountains reaching more than 14,000 feet in elevation. And us crazy Coloradans, and visitors alike, enjoy climbing to the peaks of these 14ers and experiencing the world from a new and different perspective.
For the last three years, I’ve wanted to climb a 14er and this last summer, I achieved that goal… twice!
But this is about my first 14er, Mt. Quandary soaring at 14,271 feet.
I went with my friend, who’s already climbed many 14ers, and it was quite the experience. See for yourself…
Started our climb before the sun even came up
Making our way
Mountain lake with the sun rising
Hikers beware – there are two fake summits, you think you make it but it keeps going
Yes, it was very steep!
We made it… the summit marker
On top of the world or mountain, so amazing
On the way down, we saw beautiful wildflowers like the Indian Paintbrush
(on the way up everything was dark)
The finish line
Have you climbed a 14er? Do you have a favorite? Any that you recommend because I want to hike a few more this summer.

Hi Meredith,
Very cool post. I would recommend Mt. Bierstadt, its one of the easier ones. I am looking at doing a couple of doubles this year, if I am in shape for it.
Thanks Jim! I actually did Mt. Bierstadt last summer as well, post coming
, and it was definitely a different hiking experience. Good luck with your doubles! You can do it, just stick with it.
Very jealous!
